French charge point operators call for green fleet programme

Operators who provide electric vehicle charging infrastructure in France are advocating for the establishment of a government-backed initiative focused on promoting the adoption of electric vehicles within commercial fleets. These companies believe a dedicated programme designed to encourage businesses and organisations to transition their vehicle fleets to electric alternatives is necessary to accelerate the country's green transportation goals. The French charge point operators are therefore publicly urging the government to implement this "green fleet programme" as soon as possible.

A new association of France’s leading ultra-fast charging networks has called for more incentives to support corporate fleets electrify their vehicles.

Charge France wants the Government to introduce “ambitious regulations to green corporate fleets,” with a special focus on tax incentives. This strategy, it said, will also support the development of a robust second-hand EV market for private consumers.

Charge France brings together 13 charge point operators to accelerate the role out of public charging infrastructure and represent the industry, advocating for the right regulatory and financial conditions to sustain long-term growth.

Emissions targets
It has called on the Government to maintain current EU emissions targets as well as the ban on the sale of new cars with internal combustion engines from 2035.

The 13 partners have committed to invest an extra €3 billion in the next three years, adding 30,000 new chargers to France’s ultra-fast charging network.

Fast, reliable charging
Brieuc de Tonquédec, Country Manager France & Benelux at IONITY, said: “Given the urgency of the climate crisis and the need to cut CO2 emissions, transport electrification is crucial for France’s future. The future of mobility is based on fast, reliable charging infrastructure that is accessible to all. Charge France will allow us to join forces to accelerate the energy transition and support this major transformation.”

Over the past two years, France has benefited from a 115% increase in ultra-fast charging infrastructure, making it the fastest-growing EV charging market in Europe. Charge France members have already installed about 10,000 ultra-fast chargers at over 2,000 charging stations, with most of the deployment completed in the last 24 months.

Maintain momentum
Adrien Simonnet, Head of Sales and Network Development of Allego France, said it was vital for France to maintain the momentum of its ultra-fast charging rollout, and to dispel misconceptions about electric vehicles and public charging.

“To keep this momentum, we need strong collaboration between CPOs, policymakers, and industry stakeholders,” he said.

Charge France consists of Allego, Atlante, ChargePoint, ChargeGuru/ZePlug, Driveco, Electra, E-totem, ENGIE Vianeo, Fastned, IONITY, Izivia, Powerdot, and Zunder. In addition to Simonnet and de Tonquédec, Charge France’s board of directors consists of Aurélien de Meaux, CEO of Electra, Didier Liautaud, Managing Director, ENGIE Vianeo France, and Pierre Courgeon, Managing Director France, Fastned.
