In-vehicle payments cut fraud and reduce fleet admin

A new in-vehicle payment system for fuel, tolls and parking could cut fleet fuel bills by more than 10% by harnessing telematics data and the power of AI.

Cubic, which develops software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions, said its new FleetWallet will prevent fraud. The platform wiall also reduce the administrative burden on fleet managers by automating payment workflows and replacing manual reconciliation, according to Cubic.

The cloud-based system integrates with existing connected car systems, so it requires no additional hardware. It gives fleet managers instant access to fleet performance and fuel consumption.

FleetWallet also includes a secure payment solution, enabling company car, van and truck drivers to pay either via in-car technologies, the FleetWallet app, or a fleet platform, and thereby removing the need for a fuel card.

FleetWallet complies with the EU’s Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2), which mandates stricter security measures for electronic payments.

Paul Foley, Commercial Director of FleetWallet, said: “Fraud and card misuse remain some of the most persistent pain points for fleets and car-share providers. By integrating telematics with secure payments, our platform protects against both internal misuse and external compromise, delivering over 10% savings on fuel costs while dramatically reducing administrative overhead.”

Fleet adoption
The car sharing company GoCar has already integrated FleetWallet into its operations in Ireland.

Joe Quirke, Head of GoCar Ireland, said: “As an early adopter of this solution, we’re excited to demonstrate how secure, automated and increasingly intelligent payments can reduce risk and improve efficiency across shared mobility and fleet operations.”
